Head Over Heels

As I was talking to my leo the other day, he said "Sara, am head over heels in luv with you! no wait! heels over head! cuz literally head over heels is correct!"

anyhow, I did a little search, and this is what I found about the phrase "head over heels"

Meaning
Excited, and/or turning cartwheels to demonstrate one's excitement.

Origin
'Head over heels' is now most often used as part of 'head over heels in love'. When first coined it wasn't used that way though and referred exclusively to being temporarily the wrong way up. It is one of many similar phrases that we use to describe things that are not in their usual state - 'upside-down', 'topsy-turvy', 'topple up tail', 'arse over tea-kettle', 'bass-ackwards' etc.

Herbert Lawrence's 'Contemplative Man', 1771 is the first known citation of 'head over heels':

"He gave [him] such a violent involuntary kick in the Face, as drove him Head over Heels."

The first mention of love comes in 1834, by which time the phrase had crossed the Atlantic, and into David Crockett's 'Narrative of the life of David Crockett':

"I soon found myself head over heels in love with this girl."

Note: Non-American readers might not realize that Davy Crockett was a real person. Certainly in the UK he has the semi-mythic status of characters like Robin Hood and William Tell. Crockett is best known here by the old joke: "Did you know Davy Crockett had three ears? A left ear, a right ear and a wild frontier."

'Head over heels' is a good example of how language can communicate meaning even when it makes no literal sense. After all, our head is normally over our heels. The phrase originated in the 14th century as 'heels over head', meaning doing a cartwheel or somersault. This appeared later in Thomas Carlyle's 'History of Frederick the Great', 1864:

It has been like 6 years since I graduated from high school, OMG! am I that old? ok ok I'll take that back!

TAKE TWOOOOOOOOO

It's has been a couple'a'years since i graduated from high school "ok now, that sounds much better". Our dof3a was made of 55 girls, most of us were in the same school since 1st grade. 12 years of laughter, 12 years of stupid fights, 12 years of showing off, 12 years of worrying about grades. 12 years of UNFORGETABLE MEMORIES! Each and every girl was known for her own unique character that can never be changed no matter what.

Our last year in school was almost gonna end. We all didnt want to lose contact of each other afterwards, we wanted to always stay in touch and and and... BUT! After we graduted, things didnt go the way we wanted them to be. First of all, eljam3at fragatna, girls spread all around the world to study, some in Jordan, Lebanon, London, States, Belguim, Sudan, Egypt, UAE, and the rest spread around Saudi between Jeddah, Riyadh, and Khobar. Incase you're wondering, I studied in Riyadh for a year, then Khobar for 3, and doing another major in Bahrain.

I have lost contact with almost 80% of the girls in the first year, after that, we started seeing each other in the school graduation parties, gatherings, shopping malls, or 7ata belsafar in Europe and Lebanon.

Anyhow, a couple'a'years back our friend May got married, it was the first time we gather since graduation! well, it wasnt all of us, but like 60% of us. Again we had the gathering in 3yyosh's wedding, but unfortunately 3yyosh was gonna move to Qatar. Since then, I tried to stay in contact with some of the girls and txted them from time to time.

A month ago, while I was forwarding some emails, I thought of emailing the school galz and asking them to meet up. I got a reply instantly for Reem <-- 3yyosh's best friend telling me that 3yyosh is in town and that they're both ok with it. Sara H. welcomed the idea, too. 4 girls is better than nothing. I wouldnt cancel it law eish! I really wanted to see them! so, we met in a cafe, just the 4 of us, for about 2 hours, talking about school memories, ohh yeah, and I took a cheee cake recipe for Reem :p. Before we left, I promised them enno I'll try to let more girls attend next month.

Last week, I sent a txt msg to 6 girls, and asked them to forward it to other girls from our dof3a. Last friday at 6 pm was THE TIME! I was the first one to arrive, 2 of the girls had already told me that they can't make it, but 6 did confirm their attendence. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!! elsh3oor kan marra 7amaaaaaaaas! I didnt know who could come in any second! 10 minutes later, 3anouda and Hiba came in, after them was Hala, then the girls soon tjmm3o! we ended up 3ala 10 girls. only one of them that I havent seen since graduation. Nafs our first tiny meeting, we started with school talk, then we started introducing our selves all over again and where we are now a days. Almost all of us work, some got married, and some got KIDS! we were all so excited about the jam3a, not to mention being so loud! everyone in the cafe knew everything about us! our names, phone numbers, jobs, EVERYTHING looolBefore we left, I told them enno our next gathering inshAllah ra7 ykoon at my place wo will try to contact more girls kaman.

I love my my class mates! and miss them so much :(

First day of Eid had finished! totally not as i expected! not a tear has been shed!

Grandpa, wasnt the first one we greeted, He wasnt in the V.I.P. wing yet, we had to wait till 11:30 to see him. So we started our day in granny's place, Greeting her and my aunt from Riyadh was the start of our morning Eid cruise.

The second stop was "haly haly's" house, no silly! it's not her real's name! she's my grandmother's step mom, but she says "haly haly" as a hello, so that name got stuck with her along my cousins.

Now, it was almost 11:30, so we were at the hospital! grandma, aunts and my cousins, we went up to his room, surprisingly, i acted so normal, as if he was all fine! i greeted him and kissed his hand. He was almost unconsious and then he fell asleep after less than 5 minutes!

we went on a couple of stops after that, not going into details not to bore you! but we ended up in granny's place where we all gathered, i was waiting impatiently for dinner! i havent eatten anything from last night's fotoor! i didnt sleep after that on granny's bed, but i did on my own bed, yeah... i went back home 3ala 6ool after dinner!

Second day of Eid... woke up at about 2 pm, packed some stuff, and went to the beach house. same faces from last night gathered at about Maghreb, for some of them started fasting and wanted to eat their fotoor there. everyone went back home at 2 am, but i was asleep waaaaaaaaay before they thought of leaving!

Third day of Eid, still at the beach house, and AGAIN family gathered at our place, yeah i think you can see that am not so excited about it! i mean same people, 3 days in a row, 8 hours a day! but at the end of this day, we came back home! finally, back to my slash.dash <-- my laptop's name :D

P.S. 70 Riyals and a box of Galaxy jewels were what i got for Eid!

Will it be a happy Eid?

Another Ramadan is drawing to an end, and Eid is knocking on our doors. Eid is a time to come together as a community and to renew friendship and family ties. It is a joyous occasion for all ages. You can smell happiness in the air. But I doubt we will do so this year, it will be our first Eid without him.

I know for sure that I’ll feel weird that day. I know for sure that I’ll remember every little thing he used to do and might even say it out loud. I know for sure that I’ll fake a smile and might not hold myself and shed some tears but I’ll try my best not to, or at least not to be noticed doing so.

Since I have known what Eid is, we have never had someone missing! Alhamdulillah every Eid we would all gather in my grandparents' house from Maghreb and stay there all night long. Yeah yeah, I know I don’t do so, I fall asleep right after the famous Eid Kebab feast, But I still can hear my aunts, cousins, and him shouting for someone to get him something while am on mama Shaikha's bed. I really can't imagine how we all will gather without him this year. Some of us might be used to it by now, for he has been in the hospital for 5 months, unfortunately not getting any better but thank God not worse.

I have been thinking what will my young cousins do, I mean don’t know how will they ask for their money, they’re used to getting it from him each Eid. He used to put a "post it" with each grand child's name on the money bill. Ones who graduated from school would get 500 S.R., ones still in high school would get 100, and youngsters will get 50. Other than the chocolates and candies he used to give out. I remember one Eid he had this thing like a game, he held envelopes in the hands and everyone draws an envelope. Each envelope had a different amount of money, from 1 Riyal to 500 I think. If you're wondering I got a 10, not a lucky one, i know! Don't get me wrong here. Money is worth nothing compared to the smile you see on his face followed by a laugh and then a series of coughs.

Can't stop crying! Don’t know if am supposed to do so or am being too emotional!

As mom said the other day, InshAllah first thing we'll do on Eid morning is going to him, we want him to know that he is not forgotten and never will be! He will be always be the first one we greet on Eid just like every other Eid when we get into my grand parents house and mama would push us to his room to say the Eid greetings to him, and I would be winking and smiling at him so he would give me my money… lol

Grandpa, we all want you to be in better health and come back home!
